One person has been taken into custody following six fires in a Scarborough neighbourhood Saturday.
Toronto police say the first call came in around 8:15pm to Victoria Park Ave. and Craigton Dr. after garbage bins were set on fire in the area.
Around 8:30pm, “another call for a fire in the Wexford Park came in,” says Constable David Hopkinson of Toronto Police Service.
“It was reported that debris had been set on fire in a garbage bin.”
Toronto fire was able to extinguish each of the blazes, which are believed to have been set deliberately.
Constable Hopkinson says altogether, forensic teams were sent to five scenes to take photographs.
He thanks the public for their assistance in helping police identify and locate the suspect.
“It’s very difficult to do our job without the help of our community,” he says. “In this call it seems that the community was pivotal in providing a good description of our suspect, enabling officers to arrest him.”
No injuries were reported.
