Toronto police have laid charges in a January murder that happened northwest of the city.
On Thursday, Najib Amin, 29, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Amin is alleged to have sexually assaulted and beaten 34-year-old Sylvia Consuelo to death in a Kipling and Albion Road apartment.
The victim’s body was discovered by acquaintances who dropped by her Rexdale suite at 121 Kendleton Drive in the afternoon of January 30th.
In February, investigators released security cam footage which showed the alleged Amin wearing a black leather jacket and bandana walking in a hallway and stairwell at times consistent with when Consuelo was killed.
Investigators have not revealed any information on the relationship between victim and the suspect.
But police say Consuelo was a mother of three who lived alone and had mental health and narcotic addiction issues. They also said she was supporting herself through prostitution.
Amin appeared in an Eglinton Avenue courtroom on Friday to face charges.
