A Barrie judge has tagged an Orillia man as a dangerous offender, and as such sentenced him to indefinite incarceration.
Justice Joseph Kenkel told a court room that Shayne Lund showed a “complete inability to control his sexual impulses”, this after Lund pleaded guilty to sex crimes against young children and animals.
The judge approved the Crown’s dangerous offender application on Wednesday morning and acknowledged that prosecutors had proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Lund is a high risk to re-offend. “There will never be a time when it will be safe to release Mr. Lund into the community.” said Kenkel
25 year old Lund pleaded guilty to 34 charges including sexually assaulting and conspiring to sexually assault children as young as two years old, bestiality, and making child pornography.
The crimes involved up to 14 children, and occurred in Orillia, Penetanguishene and Waterloo.
As outlined in the Criminal Code, the Parole Board of Canada will review the sentence in four years.
