The animal rights activist who gave some pigs water on a hot summer day is scheduled to take the stand Monday, in her own defense.
Anna Krajnc, with the group Toronto Pig Save, has pleaded not guilty to a mischief charge in connection to the June 2015 incident.
She has not denied giving the pigs, who were on their way to a slaughterhouse, water; she says they were overheated and dehydrated.
However, she maintains it wasn’t illegal to do so.
The court has heard during previous proceedings, the truck driver transporting the animals to Fearman’s Pork Slaughterhouse in Burlington was stopped at a traffic when Krajnc and some of members of the group, approached the vehicle.
There was a tense confrontation with the driver which was captured on tape.
If convicted, the 50 year old faces jail time, a $5,000 fine or both.
