Ontario Liberal MPP Sophie Kiwala (Kingston and the Islands) is introducing a private member’s bill to defeat the “scalper bots” that often beat out slower humans when concert and sporting event tickets are released online.
In addressing the legislature, Kiwala noted that many Canadians were frustrated when they were shut out of buying tickets to many of the Tragically Hip’s final concerts, thanks to intelligent computer software. If they really wanted to grab a pair, they had to make a purchase from a resale website like StubHub, where prices are often set insanely high.
Even if you log on to Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. with credit card information in hand, you’re likely to strike out when snatching a pair.
Ticketmaster Canada claims to have a team of experts constantly battling against these online bots.
Maybe after the Liberals handle this issue, they can finally focus on that troublesome hydro file.
