With so many young people legally buying e-cigarettes, the federal Liberals have decided to invoke further regulation on vaping which could come as early as this fall.
Health Canada is hoping to help adult smokers quit harmful tobacco, while protecting young people from nicotine addiction with a balanced policy.
On Tuedsay, the federal Liberals announced a one year renewal on the federal tobacco control strategy which has existed since 2001 and was last renewed in 2005.
With that, work will continue on a proposed ban on menthol cigarettes, in addition to introducing plain and standardized packaging on all tobacco products.
Estimates have 87,000 Canadians becoming daily smokers this year increasing health risks on themselves and others.
Early next year, a health forum will take place to discuss the future of tobacco control. Health Minister Jane Philpott will host.
