The Canadian Football League has lost defensive back Mylan Hicks of the Calgary Stampeders in what the team says was an act of violence.
According to officials with the team the 23-year-old was involved in a shooting near a nightclub in Calgary.
Police say that the football player was transported to hospital in life-threatening-condition and died a short time later from his injuries.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident that took place early Sunday morning.
