The SIU has charged a Peel police officer after a teen was injured in an arrest in Brampton.
The police watchdog’s investigation found that just after 11 a.m. on June 10, 2016, there were multiple 911 calls regarding an altercation in Brampton.
Before Peel Police officers could respond, two off-duty officers intervened and as a result of an interaction with one of the officers, a 17-year-old boy suffered a broken wrist.
He was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital for treatment.
As a result of the SIU investigation, Peel Police Constable Joel Mazzotta is now charged with one count of assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm.
The SIU is appealing for witnesses to the morning fight that ended with an arrest and an injured arm.
The police officer is required to appear in Court in Brampton on October 11, 2016.
