Conservative MP Jason Kenney has handed in his resignation to the speaker of the house, which takes effect on Friday, September 23rd.
Kenney was the Minister of National Defence and formerly the Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism.
He is now pursuing the leadership of the Progressive Conservative party in Alberta in an effort to oust the NDP’s from his home province.
There was speculation for months that Kenney would make the move and he had recently renewed his provincial PC membership after he showed up to several events around Alberta.
Jason Kenney was also a long-time lieutenant of former Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
