The driver of a transport truck which was involved in a fatal, multi-vehicle crash earlier this summer is now facing several charges.
Four people were killed in the fiery crash in the southbound lanes of Highway 400, just south of Finch avenue, including three members of the same family, who were on their way back from Canada’s Wonderland, around 10:00 p.m. on a Friday night.
A total of twelve vehicles were involved, including two other transport trucks.
Sarbjit Singh Matharu, 35, of Winnipeg, is now facing four counts each of criminal negligence causing death and a count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
At the time, police had indicated inattentive driving may have been responsible for the crash.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt had called the scene “devastating.”
The accused is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
