Raymond Cho of the Progressive Conservative Party has become the MPP of Rouge River in Scarborough after winning the byelection.
The riding was a Liberal stronghold since 1999 and now this will bring a new wave of economic development and growth as Cho stated when he spoke shortly after learning of his victory.
There were 130 out of 234 polls that reportedly had 39% of vote with Liberal Piragal Thiru registering 29% of vote in this Scarborough-Rouge River byelection.
Surrounding this byelection was the issue of the new sexual education curriculum into the educational system, which some believe could possibly have made an made an impact in the voters decision.
Provincial PC leader Patrick Brown took to the podium and said “boy does it feel good to be a Conservative tonight “. Also, “there is no riding in the province of Ontario that Kathleen Wynne and her government can take for granted.”
Doug Ford also spoke and said “we finally have blazed a trail through Toronto.” He also stated that “the people of Scarborough will be heard about subways and affordable hydro rates and that Patrick Brown will become the next Premier of Ontario.”
Raymond Cho then asked his wife to come join him before he made a speech saying “he needed to present a flower to his better half. Thank you very much and I have so many people I would like to thank.” He gave credit to the people of Scarborough and everyone in the room, cause now I have become MPP. “
