16-year-old Toronto swimmer Penny Oleksiak will carry Canada’s flag into the closing ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The teen had several breakout performances in the pool in Brazil winning four medals including gold, silver, and two bronze medals.
Oleksiak’s medals were:
- Bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay – Women
- Bronze in the Freestyle Relay 4x200m – Women
- Silver in the 100m Butterfly – Women
- Gold in the 100m Freestyle -Women
Oleksiak is the youngest of five siblings, one of whom is NHL defenceman Jamie Oleksiak, who plays for the Dallas Stars.
Her family also has an athletic tradition, her parents were both runners, older sister Hayley is a rower at Northeastern University, and older brother Jake played college hockey.
Oleksiak attends Monarch Park Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Ontario.
