It’s not often that a gaming community does something that the games they represent never could, create a real sense of family. The Bioware Official Forums will soon be no more, following news from Bioware last month the existing forums will implode as of August 26th. In the word’s of Bioware staff:
So it is with a heavy heart that we will close our public forums on August 26, 2016. We will maintain some private boards, and may use these in future for beta feedback or other special projects.
Because we know there is a lot of information on there you may want to keep, the public boards will remain in a read-only state until October 25, 2016. After that date, they will be taken down.
This may seem like a completely reasonable thing to do. More people are migrating to other services, it makes sense to focus on the place where their fans are. Unfortunately though, their fans are still using the forums in HUGE numbers.
Bioware is doing WHAT!
Whether or not you believe the closure has more dubious roots or you buy the official story it is a huge blow for the community and specifically myself. The first few jumps into journalism were born in the forum.
Nearly half a decade ago I profile the, RetakeME3 movement and their backwards wishes. Eventually this gave me enough backing to interview David Gaider, Patrick Weekes and nearly every major voice actor attached to the game.
How does this affect you? Are game forums really a thing of the past?
