Criminal charges have been laid against a former employee with the Region of Halton, who had put in sixteen years of service.
It’s alleged the Manager of Plant Capital and Engineering passed along confidential information to contractors he had personal relationships with, over a five-year period ending in January of this year, and approved various construction and maintenance projects which were later found to be unnecessary.
Halton police received a tip from an unknown source in 2015, which initiated the investigation.
David Atsushi Ohashi, 56 years, of Mississauga has been charged with fraud, use forged document, and three counts each of municipal corruption and accepting secret commissions.
He was dismissed from his position on January 21st, 2016 and he’s scheduled to appear in Milton court next month.
Police indicate their investigation did not uncover any wrongdoing by any other former or current Region of Halton employee.
