The provincial government is being accused of hiding the cost of its climate change plan by not having a separate cap-and-trade section on natural gas bills.
The Ontario Energy Board announced there would be cap-and-trade charges, but would be included in the “delivery” line charge of bills. Utilities and industrial natural gas users argued that the cap-and-trade costs should be on a separate billing line to show customers how much the plan is costing them. The cap-and-trade system is in place to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in order to combat climate change.
Progressive Conservative energy critic John Yakabuski says people have a right to know what the monthly cost of cap-and-trade will be, and that the plan is simply a cash grab.
