Why does summer camp have to cost so much?
Sure, you can still find city-run programs in Toronto and elsewhere that will cost as little as $200 a week per child. Some places of worship offer programs at a low cost as well. But those cheaper spots will disappear rather quickly.
Yahoo! points out here that privately run camps will run between $300-500 a week. Send your kid on a camp where sleeping accommodations are provided, and you’ll see costs jump to around $600 to start, with a high end of $1,500 a week.
So why do these summer distractions require so much cash to run? That’s not what it was like back in the 1980s!
Well, Heather Heagle, executive director of Ontario Camps Association, told the aforementioned website that “most people just look at summer camp like it’s 1980, and it’s not.”
There are more diverse and focused camps on offer nowadays. Children can enjoy sports camps, circus camp, arts camps, computer camp, and even animation camp!
