A 21 year old Toronto man is facing charges after allegations he forced a woman into the sex trade.
According to police, the man and woman met on Facebook in 2013, while neither of them lived in Canada, they then both moved to Canada in the spring of 2016.
Once in Toronto, the woman began working at a spa and it’s alleged that he then directed her to perform sex acts on customers to earn more money.
Investigators say she was given a strict quota by the man and if this quota was not met, he would not allow her into the home.
They also say that he would not allow the woman out of his sight unless she was at work and they while at work, he forced her to speak with him on the phone the entire time.
It’s alleged that on several occasions, he physically assaulted the woman and that on Thursday, July 21st, the victim’s injuries were noticed by her co-workers who in turn contacted police.
Later that same day, Ankush Avishek Monebhurrun was arrested.
He is facing six charges in total including trafficking in persons, sexual assault and assault.
Police are concerned there may be other victims and encouraging anyone with concerns to come forward.
