A voting error has been found in the Anglican same-sex marriage vote.
The shocking reversal came to light on Tuesday afternoon which is now starting to raise questions about the principles of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Following the vote the numbers released had the bishops voting 68.42% in favour of the resolution and the lay delegates voting 72.22 % in favour.
Although, the clergy voted 66.23%, which just missed the percentage that they needed.
The resolution is passed when two-thirds of each of three orders (lay, clergy and bishops) reaches the requirement that is needed.
A request from the delegates to review the vote led to the error being discovered with a hard copy of the electronic voting records.
