As a heat wave makes it’s presence felt in the GTHA, Metrolinx is warning that the higher temperatures could mean delays for both GO trains and the Union Pearson Express.
According to the the transit company, intense heat can cause safety issues that could require temporary slow orders for trains.
They say sustained high temperatures beyond 30°C can cause ‘sun kinks’ in steel rails, these bends in the rail can cause a safety issue if trains pass over them too quickly.
Temperatures for both Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be near or hotter than 31°C with the region under a heat warning issued by Environment Canada.
Metrolinx says it’s crews will continue to monitor the situation and will keep the public informed of any service impacts.
