The CN Tower is celebrating its 40th birthday today.
It was the tallest standing structure in the world from 1976 until 2007 when the Burj Khalifa in Dubai surpassed it while still under construction at 1,815 feet.
The structure was originally designed to transmit radio signals over the buildings in the city’s downtown core.
It is one the most recognized towers in the world, which was not intended to be the tallest when it was built.
The CN Tower is the centre point of the city’s skyline and one of Toronto’s greatest tourist attractions.
