Toronto Maple Leafs may formally oppose Snoop Dogg’s trademark application for his new line of marijuana products titled “Leafs by Snoop”. The logo includes a golden maple leaf shaped, similar to the old style Maple Leafs logo shape. It is the MLSE’s duty to protect their trademarks, to prevent brand dilution. But does this sound like a stretch? Do you think that the public would confuse Snoops Dogg’s pot products sold in Colorado with the Maple Leafs brand or is this the kind of thing that keeps the lawyers in the money? Would you think that Snoop Dogg was being endorsed by MLSE?
This isn’t the first time the MLSE got in a brand dispute. In 2011 they made Ryerson University change their hockey arena and athletics centre entitled “Maple Leaf Gardens” to “Mattamy Athletic Center”.
