With many fans unable to get tickets to The Tragically Hip’s upcoming tour dates, councillors in both Mississauga and Toronto are calling for free concerts to be held in their respective cities.
Mississauga Councillor Nando Iannicca proposed the idea during Wednesday’s council meeting, while Toronto Councillor Josh Colle is suggesting having a free concert at Downsview Park, a venue which hosted close to half a million people for SARSstock in 2003. Both think it would be a great way to pay homage to the band, after The Hip announced singer Gordon Downie has terminal brain cancer. The cities would pick up the cost, and would be free for the fans. Neither the band or Live Nation have responded to the suggestions.
Is this a reasonable thing to ask of the band to put on more shows?
