Sunday likely not a good day for a drive in the city.
The Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway will be closed for a good portion of Sunday for the Becel Heart and Stroke ‘Ride for Heart’.
The City of Toronto says the Gardiner will be closed between Carlaw Avenue and the Humber Bridge, and the DVP will be closed between Highway 401 and the Gardiner until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Meanwhile the installation of a temporary bridge at Dowling Avenue is likely to add to the congestion as Eastbound collector lanes of the Gardiner in the area of the Dowling Avenue Bridge will be closed starting at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.
Drivers are being advised to take Lake Shore Boulevard as an alternate route to the Gardiner.
Alternative routes for the DVP are Leslie Street, Don Mills Road and Victoria Park Avenue.
The Run, Walk and Ride event is an annual June fundraiser which draws as many as 20,000, yearly.
The money raised goes to research, as well as CPR training and heart and stroke related treatments.
