The way you belt out the national anthem may be changing.
On Tuesday, Members of Parliament will debate the idea of replacing one line in the anthem to make it gender-neutral.
Liberal MP for Ottawa, Mauril Belanger, wants to see the line “in all thy sons command” replaced with “in all of us command.”
He introduced his private member’s bill back in January.
Belanger’s health has been steadily deteriorating since he learned last fall he has an incurable and fatal neurodegenerative disease, more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Another MP, Conservative Erin O’Toole, says although he’s sympathetic to Belanger’s situation, he will not support the bill because he doesn’t believe Canada should change any part of it’s heritage, even if it appears to be outdated.
