Social media is aflame after news emerged from the Cincinnati Zoo that a 17-year-old Gorilla had been shot and killed following a young boys fall into the primate’s enclosure.
Some have even used the hashtag #JusticeForHarambe.
Harambe was shot dead after a four-year-old boy climbed through an enclosure barrier Saturday and fell three metres into a moat.
The boy was dragged through the shallow moat by Harambe for a time, but at one point it appeared as thought the primate was gently trying to stand the boy up.
Responding to questions being asked about the use of a bullet instead of a tranquilizer dart, Zoo director Thane Maynard said they “made a tough choice and they made the right choice because they saved that little boy’s life. It could have been very bad.”
Questions are also being asked about the parenting skills of the adults who failed to keep an eye on the wandering child, who was taken to a local hospital and is expected to fully recover (no information about his condition has been released).
