Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders spoke to the media today for the first time since the shooting death of a pregnant 35-year-old woman in Rexdale. He says the shooting shocked the city, but there are no simple solutions to complicated problems.
However, Saunders says the force has work to do in order to prevent these kinds of events from taking place in the city and they also need to restore the public’s confidence with Toronto Police.
Candice Rochelle Bobb was fatally shot in Jamestown on Sunday night while inside a vehicle near John Garland Boulevard and Jamestown Crescent. Her 5-month-old baby was delivered through an emergency C-section.
She is Toronto’s 29th homicide victim of the year and her child is now in stable condition.
There were also three other people inside the vehicle who were not injured.
Chief Saunders also stated that they will need more assistance from the public as they are still searching for the suspects in this case. He also says that the safest city in North America is currently dealing with a gun violence problem.
