56-year-old Carol Thompson was killed when her car collided with a freight train on Sandalwood Parkway West in Brampton last Friday. She was attempting to cross the tracks ahead of the train’s arrival.
Her brother is asking Transport Canada why the crossing isn’t equipped with gates. There are flashing lights and a warning bell, both of which were working at the time of the incident.
Gates are absent at almost 4,000 gates across Canada.
The warning indicators at a crossing are triggered when a train is 1/4 mile away. The speed limit, according to local train enthusiasts, at that Brampton location is 16 km/h.
Rose called The Stafford Show and argued that the trains should bear some of the blame in these incidents! Listen to her call below.
