With Environment Canada’s forcast predicting sunshine and temperatures in the teens, spring maintenance is expected to frustrate many traveling to a variety of Toronto city events.
The Don Valley Parkway will be closed starting at 11:00 p.m. on Friday night in both directions between Highway 401, and the Gardiner Expressway for annual spring maintenance. It will reopen on Monday at 5:00 a.m.
Also, track work will shut down subway service on Line 1 Yonge-University-Spadina between St George and Lawrence West stations, Saturday and Sunday.
The city’s Director of Transportation services says as frustrating as this might be for travelers, it’s important work.
“This is significant work that needs to take place to protect the longevity of the infrastructure, and to ensure public safety.” says Kyp Perikleous, “We know it’s an inconvenience, but with Toronto being as busy as it is, there’s no perfect weekend to do this work.”
The closures couldn’t come at a worse time as the city has a laundry list of events on the weekend including:
On top of that, there should be lots of traffic around the Air Canada Centre as the Toronto Raptors will open their eastern conference quarter final series against Indiana on Saturday afternoon.
