Tensions are still running high after the Blue Jays lost to the Rays Tuesday night, 3-2, their first loss of the new season, thanks to a recently implemented rule.
It fell apart with bases loaded in the ninth inning.
Edwin Encarnacion hit an infield ball which drove in a pair of runs off a throwing error from second, which would have been a double play.
Tampa challenged the call, arguing Jose Bautista’s slide into second base was illegal.
Video replay shows his hand coming into contact with second baseman Logan Forsythe, which violates the new double play slide rule.
Manager John Gibbons was not pleased with the call. “That’s flat out embarrassing. That cost us a chance to win a Major League game.”
The Jays and Rays will close out the series Wednesday afternoon.
