‘Redemption Dogs’ founder Nicole Simone has launched the petition ‘Ban The Neglect of Dogs On Residential Balconies’, asking for a time limit when keeping dogs unattended on apartment and condo balconies, so that they’re not stranded there for long periods of time. It has gathered over 1300 signature since last Friday. She first noticed a problem when she saw walking her dog and saw toy poodles crying on a balcony. It went on for hours, and when she approached security they explained that there was nothing that can be done – no one to call, no bylaws.
Simone has since decided to take action. She explains that “dogs in those situations can face unpredictable and extreme weather conditions, they could get distracted and fall off the balcony, or get injured and die […] It devalues the property, as well. Nobody likes to look at a building [or] buy a condo where there’s dogs just living on balconies.”
The proposed fine would be $350.
