The Black Lives Matter coalition held a major protest in front of Toronto Police headquarters last evening following an earlier protest last week, which led to what they feel, was unprovoked street action by officers.
College Street was closed off between Bay and Carlton streets for the majority of the day with protesters camping out at the location throughout the most of the week. As a result, they managed to gain support from members of CUPE.
There was also a protest last weekend in front of the same location in regards to a verdict surrounding 45-year-old Andrew Loku, who was shot by police on July 5th, 2015 at an apartment complex on Gilbert Avenue while swinging a hammer around his head. He was warned by officers to drop it, but he would go on to be shot twice and later die after he reached within 10 feet.
Demonstrations have been taking outside Toronto Police headquarters since the SIU’s decision in the Loku case back on Friday, March 18th.
