Local Black Lives Matter activists are calling on Toronto police, the City of Toronto and Mayor John Tory to be more accountable.
They have a press conference planned for Monday morning, which is also International Day Against Racism.
Activists spent the night, in below-zero temperatures, outside Police headquarters on College Street, and say they will stay there to protest recent cases of racism.
They’ve denounced the Special Investigation Unit’s decision not to indict the officers involved in the death of Andrew Loku, as well as the decision to cut Afrofest down to a single day.
Black Lives Matter-Toronto are demanding Police Chief Mark Saunders release the names of the officers responsible for the deaths of Andrew Loku and Jermaine Carby, and for charges to be laid.
They’re also calling for a review of the SIU, and for Afrofest to be returned to a 2-day festival
