Toronto police have confirmed that a father who left his three month old baby in a running car which was then stolen, will not be facing charges.
The incident, which took place outside a flea market in Rexdale on Sunday afternoon, triggered an Amber alert across the province.
Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook says that following an investigation, police have determined that the father had not been negligent towards the child, as he was standing ”a few feet away” from the vehicle when the suspect jumped in and drove off.
The Amber Alert lasted for about two hours before the car was located by a worker at a hotel near Dixon and Martin Grove roads, the baby sleeping safely in the back.
The suspected car thief remains at large and could now face child abandonment charges as he did not contact police to say where he had left the car and sleeping baby.
The suspect is described as a white male between 40 and 45 years of age, 5′ 5” tall, with a medium build and short blonde hair.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts or the incident is asked to contact police.
