An MLB player earning in excess of $13 million a year retired a year before his contract expired because the Chicago White Sox refused to permit Adam LaRoche to bring his 13-year-old son to the clubhouse each day (particularly during spring training). LaRoche’s teammates seem to be completely on his side and were prepared to boycott a game Wednesday against Milwaukee to make their point. Blue Jays players also are siding with LaRoche.
Guest Mark Yost writes on the business of sport (out of Chicago) for the Wall Street Journal and takes his 14-year-old son, George, everywhere with him. On road trips, to Europe, wherever–Mark always travels with George by his side. But is LaRoche correct….or is he mad to forfeit $13+ million over this issue?
