Toronto will be in darkness for an hour tonight as the city participates in Earth Hour.
From 8:30pm till 9:30pm tonight, the cities residents are encouraged to turn off their lights and join more than 7,000 towns and cities across the globe in support of the now famous initiative.
The annual event was started in Australia back in 2007 and has since then been spearheaded by the World Wildlife Federation.
The event itself has paved the way for several humanitarian efforts throughout the world. Some of which include providing power stricken villages in India with Solar-powered lighting fixtures and has also launched education programs to schools in Thailand and Taiwan.
Earth Hour 2016 will mark the tenth year of the global campaign.
