Residents of an Etobicoke neighbourhood say they are sick of the smell coming from a nearby soap factory.
Joanne Currie lives near the Lush factory located on Jutland Road near The Queensway and Kipling Avenue. Her and nearly a hundred residents are fight back against the company and asking them to move.
Lush Cosmetics began production in the area in 2013. Currie says her husband has been experiencing regular migraines from the smell.
When we contacted Lush they replied with the following statement:
“Lush is aware of the concerns that have been raised by the community members near our Etobicoke production facility. Over the last year we have implemented some steps to reduce sound and scent from escaping the building, which included further sealing of the building and relocation of one of our production ranges. In addition, we’ve been working with the Ministry of Environment and a third party engineer to identify the scent levels related to our production facility. We are currently in the process of identifying and reviewing additional options allowing us to further reduce any impact on our neighbours.”
Joanne Currie joins me now to discuss.
