The Toronto Police Service has unveiled a new Homicide cold-case website.
The website will allow users to to search for information on investigations, dating back as far as 1959, by searching for a name or browsing by year.
Information will also be provided on the site about how to contact investigators regarding a specific case.
Toronto Police Chief, Mark Saunders unveiled the site at Police Headquarters this afternoon.
Users can browse over 500 cold cases and Saunders says people are encouraged to use and print wanted posters or share them to social media.
Many of the cases offer rewards and that can also be shared via social media.
Saunders says the website is an opportunity to leverage social media. He says “Globalization has made the world a much smaller place, access to all corners of the world is a much easier thing now.”
The chief believes that things like advancements in technology, changes of heart by witnesses could aid in solving these cases today.
Saunders also says the cold case site will also soon be added to the TPS app.
