Owners of a Barrie tattoo shop, Unique Ink Custom Tattooing, are worried they will go out of business if an Ontario Municipal Board appeal does not resolve soon.
The shop was granted an exception to move locations. However, a Barrie Downtown Neighbourhoods Association (BDNA) member Jack Garner launched an OMB appeal and referred to tattoo shops as “unsavory businesses”.
Andrew Batten, co-owner of the tattoo shop, explains that “this is putting [his] business in jeopardy, which is taking money from [his] pocket and food from [his] kids’ mouths”. He planned to expand the tattoo parlor and create opportunities for other artists in the area.
Is this fair? Does Jack Garner have a point? Are tattoo parlors an “unsavory” business?
