How far should somebody be able to go to defend their home and property?
26-year-old Glanbrook homeowner Peter Khill decided that he had the right to kill the man who attempted to steal the pickup truck in his driveway.
Khill shot and killed 29-year-old Jonathon Dwight Styres when the latter was caught in the act just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to his lawyer, Khill plans to plead not guilty to the charge. “He is a quiet spoken, gentleman is about all I can say. He has his training and he has been employed. There have been no entanglements with the law,” said defence counsel Derek Martin.
Khil is a field specialist for GE Power, and also served as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces from 2007 to 2011.
Should he have called 911 and let the authorities handle the intruder? Do you think he was justified in how he handled the situation?
