York police have identified a suspect dubbed the “fresh breath bandit”.
It’s alleged on December 17, a man walked into a Shoppers drug mart near Highway 7 and Kennedy Road in Markham where he stole about $1,500 worth of gum.
In surveillance footage, the man can be seen walking to the candy aisle where he fills a garbage bag with gum and walks out of the store. He returns a few moments later and fills another bag with gum and leaves without paying.
It is believed that the man loaded both garbage bags into a taxi that was waiting for him and left.
Police say with the help of tips received from media and social media coverage, the suspect has been identified as 46 year old Lester Hosein.
Anyone with information is asked to contact York Police or Crime Stoppers.
