Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has reported 10 new cases of rabies in raccoons, bringing the total amount to 25 in Ontario. The official report was as of Tuesday of this week.
While there haven’t been any recorded instances in Toronto, officials are worried about rabies being spread to the GTA. Officials are not surprised that the number continues to grow, but continue to find ways to cull the infection.
Raccoon rabies hasn’t been seen in Ontario since 2005 and its re-emergence in early December only came to light after two dogs got into a fight with a sick raccoon in the back of an animal services van.
