Both southbound and northbound lanes of Highway 400 between King Road and Aurora Road have now reopened following an earlier incident which saw the wheel of a transport truck smash into an SUV.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the transport truck was travelling southbound on the 400 around 9:15 a.m. when the wheel came off and bounced into the northbound lanes hitting an SUV.
The wheel struck the top of the vehicle smashing the windshield and the roof of the SUV.
The driver, a 69 year old man, was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries.
The Highway was closed in both directions for a time this morning and early this afternoon to facilitate a police investigation, but the road has now fully reopened.
