Recent arrivals to Great Britain who cannot pass an English test within two and a half years of entering the country may not be able to stay.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said that 190,000 Muslim women in the UK spoke little to no English, which has left them vulnerable to oppression at the hands of their male counterparts. He added that limiting the ability to stay in the UK with poor English will “make it clear to those men who stop their partners from integrating that there are consequences.”
Muslim groups have condemned Cameron for unfair criticism of British Muslims rather than working with community groups.
Is this the right approach, or is it unfair? Do you think Cameron’s plan is oversimplifying the problem?
