Rolling Stone editor has shrugged off criticism over publishing the interview of wanted drug kingpin “El Chapo” Guzman with actor Sean Penn.
Editor Jann Wenner defended the assignment and said Rolling Stone averted authorities to El Chapo’s whereabouts. However, the article basically got final approval by the druglord himself, who was able to read it before publication. It remains unclear how Guzman was able to read the article since he only knows Spanish.
Do journalists have a duty to alert authorities if they know the whereabouts of wanted felons?
