In Chattanooga, Tennessee, a high school basketball team has had their season cancelled after three players have been charged with raping another teammate.
This happened during an apparent hazing incident involving the team. According to the Hamilton County Schools Superintendent, the whole season was called off “so that the criminal justice system can work the way we expect.” The three teens involved have been charged with aggravated rape, which under Tennessee law is defined as rape either with use of a weapon, causes bodily injury, or is aided by multiple people. The victim underwent surgery after being assaulted.
Is it fair to punish the entire team because of the alleged actions of a few?
