It appears that the federal Liberals will not reach their goal of bringing 10,000 Syrian refugees over to Canada by the end of 2015.
However, Immigration Minister John McCallum says that all of the refugees will indeed be certified by the end of the year and that he still feels strongly about the chances of having 25,000 refugees here by the end of February.
The issue according to McCallum is whether or not the certified refugees will touch down on Canadian soil by the end of the month and he blames the delay on improper flying weather and refugees who are waiting to say goodbye to their families, which are circumstances beyond the government’s control.
It was a promise by the Liberal’s during the election campaign to have 25,000 refugees here by the end of December, but it was announced in November that number would be pushed back to February 2016.
