Toronto police have made an arrest in the murder of a 24-year-old man who was stabbed to death on New Year’s Day three years ago.
Mike Pimentel attended new years festivities at the Liberty Grand with friends and was killed when he was heading to an apartment in the area.
Police say 30-year-old Shawn Poirier of Calgary has been charged with second-degree murder in Pimentel’s death.
They say Poirier was arrested in Calgary last Thursday and was returned to Toronto yesterday where he had his first court appearance this morning.
Police continue to search for a taxi driver who was handed a cell phone that night to try and locate Poirier near Lake Ontario.
