Kindergarten students in Toronto are being suspended at a skyrocketing rate that has jumped nearly 50 per cent over the past four years.
Increasingly, students between kindergarten and grade 3 are being sent home as their punishment rather than serving it at school. Teachers claim it’s due to cutbacks and the implantation of all-day kindergarten. As well, there have been cases of kindergarten students getting violent with teachers, including a pregnant teacher being head-butted by a disgruntled student.
Is this a parenting problem or a teaching one? Should kindergarten kids be suspended?
