If you normally use GO Transit to get to and from work, get ready to pay a bit more for the privilege in the new year.
The Metrolinx Board of Directors meets later this week, and a fare hike is on the agenda, possibly in the neighborhood of 40 to 60 cents per ride. It says this would help GO Transit respond to increasing ridership demand, while continuing to provide the best possible service to it’s customers.
According to it’s website, the proposed tiered fare increase would mean freezing lower fares for shorter distances, while increasing the discount when using the PRESTO card.
The changes are expected to take effect February 1.
As well, Metrolinx will look at what can be done to increase ridership on the Union-Pearson Express, and one of the options reportedly being considered is a fare adjustment.
Adult fares would drop nearly $10 to $44, and kids 12-and-under would ride for free.
A new family fare would also be introduced.
