The NDP Alberta government wants to be a part of the solution not a part of the problem anymore. That’s why Premier Rachel Notley is accepting suggestions that call for drastic economic changes to fight climate change contributors in her province.
The government plans to phase out all coal-fired power plants by 2030, as well as implementing carbon taxes applicable to everyday citizens starting in 2018.
This also puts heavy restrictions on oil sands emissions, with a cap of 100 megatonne limit to promote alternative development.
The plan will cost the province 3 billion dollars a year but has the full support for energy economist and the president of Suncor Energy.
Even former American Vice President Al Gore approves.
